CUSTOM PUPPETS VS. STOCK PUPPETS

My Custom Puppet
Their Stock Puppet
Base materials: Reticulated "scot" foam, or L200. High tensile strength, long life, good structural support.

Fabric: Premium nylon fleece for skin. Long wear, exceptional seam coverage.

Skin tone: Skin fabrics are custom dyed, so you always get exactly what you want, in a limitless variety of available colors.

Costume: Custom designed and made so you get what you want. No surprises.

Construction Method: Handmade from scratch. Heads are all hand sewn to minimize seams.

Appearance: One of a kind. My original designs, or from yours. Puppets with personality. Include important design features like poseable fingers.

Performability: Maximum. Made by a professional puppeteer FOR professional puppeteers.

Base Material: Inexpensive polyurethane foam. Tears easily, degrades quickly, weak structural support.

Fabric: Skin is velour, which gets dirty quickly, and shows seams readily.

Skin tone: You can't necessarily get the color you want if it's not in stock. The design you like may not come in the color you like.

Costume: Clothes may differ from what their stock photo shows. Some places don't even include clothes.

Construction Method: Mass produced. Completely machine sewn. Highly visible seams.

Appearance: Unoriginal, cookie cutter. How many puppets have you seen that look just like this? They don't even have individual fingers!

Performability: Limited. Made in a factory by sewing machine operators, not by puppet professionals.
